MESS ROOM CIC is a creative community space, based on the ground floor of Sun Pier House, Chatham, Medway. They reached out regarding a window illustration to cover their two glass double doors on the way into the studio. Firstly to add some privacy to the studio space, but the illustrations also had to be informative of what the space is, as well as highlight that there are other businesses that branch off from the MESS ROOM. After measuring up the windows and taking relevant photographs of the space I could create digital sketches to send to the client for approval. We decided on a botanical base for both bottom windows, and a paintbrush banner design for the larger top windows. Inside the banner I had space to add the names of all of the businesses and studios that branch off of the MESS ROOM. I decided to add pops of colour to the illustrations by adding lines rather than block colour. The lines gave the illusion of the windows having more heavy coverage, without disrupting how much light could come through the double doors. Several POSCA pens later the illustrations were complete.
