Outside In

‘Outside In’ was my final major project whilst studying BA Illustration and Animation at the University for the Creative Arts, Canterbury. This project explores key themes developed from my dissertation, ‘Painted Figures: How has tattooing empowered women to reclaim their bodies?’ These themes include powerful women of history such as Ellen Chapman, attitudes towards those classed as outsiders, and how does class impact on society’s view of those that are different. This project aims to merge these themes and consider how to bring the outsiders inside? Using surface design in the form of ornate wallpaper and fabric - the classes are merged.

As well as the fabric and wallpaper designs I created an A5 pocket book catalogue. This catalogue featured all 136 of my edited designs out of 200. I also created a one of a kind hand-bound wooden catalogue with a screen-printed cover, which included my main 25 designs. 3 of which were printed on velvet for my grad showcase.

Two books were produced off of the back of Outside In wallpaper and fabric designs. The first is an A3 wooden bolt-bound catalogue with a yellow book cloth bind and hand screen-printed cover. The contents of the book includes 25 prints of the main 5 designs created as the project developed. This catalogue is a one-off.

The second is an A5 pocket catalogue of all the official final designs produced throughout this project. The smaller catalogues are made up of 136 pages on glossy textured paper.

If interested in purchasing a catalogue please email me.
