Botanical Illustration

Botanical illustration has been a subject I constantly return to no matter what direction my practice takes me. The free flowing and sometimes rigid compositions of organic matter is a thing of wonder. I don’t believe there is such thing as an imperfect creation when it comes to botanical illustration. This page features a selection of mixed medium botanical themed pieces created from 2018 to present.

MOSAF 2023 Botanical Collection.

Watercolour and ink illustrations made specifically for my Medway Open Studios Arts Festival 2023 body of work. These illustrations helped aid in the production of my MOSAF23 fabrics. They were also turned into a collection of prints and greetings cards.

The Spaces - Closed Curtains

These individual illustrations created using watercolour and ink, are what make up the botanical explosion out the back of the skulls head on the EP Closed Curtains, by local Medway band, The Spaces.

After individually creating the illustrations I scan them in, and digitally compose them together to make my work.

POSCA and acrylic paint on canvas.

I created these illustrations during my second year at university during the second year of the COVID-19 lockdown (2021). Living in Canterbury, but not being able to attend in class sessions, I had undistracted time to produce larger originals. At this time POSCA pens were among my favourite mediums to use. The illustration to the right, I had made into 280gsm half panama cotton fabric, which then I sent to a Victorian corset maker in Gravesend to create my graduation outfit.
